A second Virginia player enters transfer portal: Freshman guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim

A second Virginia player has entered into the NCAA transfer portal according to a source close to the situation.

Freshman guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim, the son of former NBA standout Shareef Abdur-Rahim, has joined sophomore Casey Morsell in entering his name into the portal. Abdur-Rahim is a 6-foot-7, 215-pound product of Blair Academy and a native of South Orange, N.J.

He made his collegiate debut against Towson in November, scoring a 3-pointer in four minutes of playing time. He clocked 11 minutes in UVA’s loss to Saint Francis and missed all three field goal attempts.

Abdur-Rahim didn’t play again until the Cavaliers’ lopsided loss to Gonzaga, getting eight minutes and missing his only shot. Once ACC play began, he made cameo appearances against Clemson (four minutes, was 1 for 2 shooting), but did not score in games against Syracuse, North Carolina and Florida State, not playing more than two minutes in any of those games.

For the season, he was 2 of 10 on field goal attempts, and scored five points. He was 1 of 7 from the 3-point arc, had two assists and one turnover.

Abdur-Rahim, whose father is president of the NBA’s G-League, came to UVA from Blair where he averaged 31.5 points per game in the two-game, season-shortened senior season in 2019-20. He led Blair to a 28-3 record and the New Jersey Prep A state championship (averaging 16 points and 8.7 rebounds) in 2018-19.

He was also recruited by Michigan, Villanova, Notre Dame, Louisville, Texas, Kansas and UConn.
