Birdwood Golf Course makes impressive improvements to driving range

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the first of several articles, photographs and videos about the “new” Birdwood Golf Course that will be appearing on this site over the rest of the week.

Birdwood director of golf Martin Winters previews the renovated driving range.

While workers and Mother Nature do their jobs for the completion of the completely renovated Birdwood Golf Course, the club’s revised driving range is open for business.

“We have renovated the driving range and it’s open fully,” said Martin Winters, Birdwood’s longtime director of golf. “We’ve made some really nice improvements on the range.

“We have lowered the elevation, improved our targets, fixed the drainage and more.”

This columnist took a tour of the entire course with Winters and in my opinion, this isn’t just a course renovation. This is a “new” golf course.

Davis Love III and his company have opened up the course, created some fascinating new holes and new tee options. The course looks fabulous.

Over the coming days I will write about the new, massive putting green, the par-3 course, the renovation of the course, and I’ll tell you how to join and become a member. Birdwood and Boar’s Head Resort & Sports Club offer several different packages to choose from.

Birdwood hopes to open sometime this summer depending on weather and other factors, including the pandemic.

Check out the video with Winters below as we give you a close up look at the revised driving range.
