Former Virginia star Malcolm Brogdon agreed to an extension with the Indiana Pacers Monday, a deal that will net him nearly $90 million in guaranteed money over the next four years. Brogdon’s deal — two years, $45 million — will take effect in 2023-24, according to his agent.

Brogdon, 28, is about to begin his third season with the Pacers after playing his first three NBA seasons in Milwaukee.

The 2017 Rookie of the Year averaged a career-best in both points (21.2 ppg) and rebounds (5.3 rpg), while dishing out a solid 5.9 assists per contest. Brogdon has started in each of his last 174 games over the past three seasons.

The Norcross, Ga., native has averaged 15.1 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds across his five seasons as a professional.

Huff signs two-way contract with Lakers

Brogdon wasn’t the only former Wahoo in the news Monday, as 2021 graduate Jay Huff inked a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Huff, who was signed and eventually waived by the Washington Wizards, will spend the majority of the upcoming season with the affiliate South Bay Lakers of the G League, but can appear in up to 50 of LA’s 82 regular-season contests.

Huff, who averaged 4.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks for the Wizards’ Summer League squad, is set to receive a salary of $462,629, or half the NBA’s rookie minimum.

Cavaliers ranked No. 25 in first AP poll

College basketball season tips off in a few weeks, and Virginia just barely cracked the initial AP Top 25 poll, as announced Monday.

The Hoos — who finished first atop the ACC regular-season standings last season with a record of 18-7 (13-4 ACC) — are ranked 25th, one of four ranked conference schools. Duke is the only one ranked in the top ten, checking in at No. 9, while North Carolina is 19th and Florida State is 20th.

Virginia Tech (25 votes), Syracuse (5), Notre Dame (3) and Louisville (3) appeared in the “others receiving votes” category.

The Cavaliers received 125 votes, 36 behind No. 24 UConn. Virginia finished 15th in the final poll of 2020-21. The regular season tips off at John Paul Jones Arena on Nov. 9 against Navy.
