‘Hoos sweep matches at Liberty Invitational

uva golfPlaying a non-traditional invitational format, three members of the Virginia men’s golf team swept their matches during Monday’s play at the Liberty Invitational. Competition took place at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst.

During the morning’s rounds, Jack Montague shot 2-over 73 to defeat Charlotte’s Connor Armistead by three strokes. Playing in a threesome, UVA freshman George Duangmanee won that group’s match by shooting 73 while Jimmie Massie was second at 75 to also pick up a win against Liberty’s Connor Polender (77).

During the afternoon play, Massie posted a score of 78 to better Liberty’s Phillip Miller by a stroke. Duangmanee led his group with a 1-under 70 while Montague shot 73 and Charlotte’s Armistead finished with a 77.

The Cavaliers will play a final round on Tuesday morning. Freshman Chris Fosdick will substitute in for Massie to join Montague and Duangmanee.
