Virginia battles Trinity on Friday in Potter Cup Quarterfinals

The Virginia men’s squash team earned a berth to the Potter Cup, the A division of the College Squash Association Team Championships, and will compete against Trinity in its opening match of the tournament. The two teams will play at 1 p.m. on Friday at Harvard’s Murr Center Squash Courts.

Virginia (17-4) is the seventh seed in the tournament. The Cavaliers will compete in the bracketed tournament against top-seeded Harvard, second-seeded Trinity, third-seeded Pennsylvania, fourth-seeded Princeton, fifth-seeded Rochester, sixth-seeded Yale and eight-seeded Drexel.

The Tournament

The Bantams

  • Virginia and Trinity will meet on the courts for the first time in program history.
  • Trinity holds a 17-1 record on the season with the team’s lone loss occurring against Harvard. The Crimson won that matchup 8-1.
  • The Bantams hold wins this season against tournament foes Drexel, Rochester, Penn, Yale and Princeton.
  • Trinity finished as the CSA runners-up at last year’s championship. The Bantams fell 9-0 to Harvard in the championship match.

    The Cavalier Season

  • Virginia recorded its best season since becoming a varsity program in 2017.
  • The Cavaliers won 17 matches and earned their best ranking in program history at No. 7.
  • Virginia recorded 11 wins over nationally-ranked teams during the year.
  • UVA enters the tournament as the Mid-Atlantic Squash Championship champion, going undefeated in the conference championships to win the title.
  • Virginia defeated then-No. 24 Dickinson 9-0, before topping both then-No. 12 George Washington and then-No. 14 Franklin & Marshall 8-1 to claim the title.
