Virginia Men’s Swimming earns seven All-America honors on Friday at NCAA Championships

Virginia swimming divingThe Virginia men’s swimming & diving team picked up seven All-American honors on the third day of competition at the 2021 NCAA Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Virginia opened the night with a 10th-place finish by Casey Storch (Great Falls, Va.) in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 3:41.79, the fourth-fastest time in UVA history.

Keefer Barnum (Louisville, Ky.) picked up the best finish of the night, placing fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a new UVA record time of 51.27. Noah Nichols (Midlothian, Va.) finished 14th overall with a time of 51.99.

The Cavaliers closed the night with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Matt Brownstead (Port Matilda, Pa.), Barnum, Max Edwards (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and August Lamb (Charlottesville, Va.), respectively, clocked in with a school-record time of 1:23.26.

Prelims

Sean Conway (Round Hill, Va.) finished 19th in the 400-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 3:44.29 and the seventh-fastest time in UVA history.

Edwards was 24th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 46.35. Jack Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) finished 36th in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:35.42.

Justin Grender (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke in a career-best 46.33 and Will Cole (Prospect, Ky.) was 31st in 46.72.

Virginia concludes competition at the NCAA Championships on Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Both sessions will be streamed on ESPN3.
