Former Wahoo McCarthy has a big week on PGA Tour
By Jerry Ratcliffe
Former UVA All-American golfer Denny McCarthy is $320,000 richer today after a third-place tie in the Honda Classic over the weekend.
The 28-year-old McCarthy fired a closing round 3-under 67 to finish near the top of the leader board in a week filled with some highlight reel birdies.
On Friday, McCarthy rolled in a 33-foot birdie putt en route to a 5-under 65, his low round of the week. On Saturday, he sank a 40-foot birdie on the 14th hole, only four holes after making a 45-foot birdie from out of the bunker.
For the week, McCarthy was seventh in the field in driving accuracy.
Where the former Wahoo is making his money is with his putter. He is becoming known as one of the best putters on the PGA Tour.
Last season, McCarthy posted four top 10 finishes on his way to earning $1,178,557.
