Virginia hosts Cavalier Match Play at Birdwood

The No. 12 Virginia women’s golf team plays host to its inaugural multi-team tournament – the Cavalier Match Play – at Birdwood Golf Course on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Teams tee off starting at 7:45 a.m. both days with Tuesday’s afternoon’s second round scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
The eight-team field includes Duke (2), Virginia (12), Virginia Tech (14), Maryland (20), Louisville (48), North Carolina (52), NC State (92) and Richmond (129). Teams are listed in seed order with Golfstat rankings in parentheses.
The second-seeded Cavaliers will face seventh seed NC State Tuesday morning starting at 9:05 a.m. UVA will play its afternoon match starting at either 1:35 p.m. or 2:15 p.m.
The Cavaliers’ lineup features senior Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.), junior Riley Smyth (Cary, N.C.), sophomores Virginia Bossi (Como, Italy) and Celeste Valinho (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshman Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, Del.). They have been UVA’s lineup for all six tournaments this season.
There will also be an individual bracket (seeded by Golfstat rankings) that features Wake Forest’s Lauren Walsh, (11), Duke’s Phoebe Brinker (16), South Carolina’s Lois Kay Go (31), Wake Forest’s Mimi Rhodes (53), South Carolina’s Mathilde Claisse (157), Wake Forest’s Vanessa Knecht (NR) and Virginia’s Sky Sload (NR) and Claire Hodges (NR).
