Andrew Abbott was recognized as a National Player of the Week by Perfect Game, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Abbott (Republican Grove, Va.) struck out a career-high 16 batters on Friday against Wake Forest while tossing 7.1 innings of the program’s seventh no-hitter. The 16 strikeouts were the most by an ACC pitcher this season and the third most by a UVA-pitcher ever.
The senior lefthander leads the ACC in strikeouts with 115, the sixth-most by a Cavalier pitcher in a single season. His 280 career strikeouts are the third most in program history, nine behind UVA Baseball Hall of Famer Seth Greisinger (1994-96) for second place all time.
The Cavaliers are back in action on Thursday (May 20) when they begin a three-game series at Boston College.
