4-star Cosby has UVA in final 7; ‘Bennett wants me to be that dawg’

Virginia remained in the mix for a home-grown shooting guard, considered one of the top 10 prospects in the state of North Carolina, when 4-star shooting guard Davin Cosby Jr. trimmed his list of schools to seven on Sunday.

Cosby, who grew up in Richmond, but now plays for Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, announced his final schools: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia and Wake Forest. He eliminated 10 previous offers, including Virginia Tech.

At 6-foot-5, 185 pounds, Cosby is rated the No. 177 recruit in the nation by 247Sports composite, the No. 31 ranked shooting guard and the 8th-best overall recruit in the state of North Carolina for the recruiting class of 2023. On3 lists him as a 4-star prospect, who rated him the No. 90 overall prospect in the country, much higher than the consensus rankings, the No. 36 shooting guard and the No. 7 player in North Carolina.

Cosby told On3’s Joe Tipton his impressions of UVA’s program: “The hometown team. Coach (Tony) Bennett wants me to come in and be that dawg. He knows I have great energy, especially on the defensive end.”

The Richmond native is scheduled to make an official visit to Virginia on Aug. 26, Alabama on Sept. 3, Tennessee on Oct. 15 and LSU on Oct. 22. He has already officially visited Wake and unofficially visited NC State.
