Virginia hosts Campbell at 7 p.m.; first of three home games this week

The Virginia women’s basketball team hosts Campbell on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

VIRGINIA NOTES
- The Cavaliers (5-0, 1-0 ACC) are playing four games in eight days. This is the second in that stretch following Sunday’s 74-60 win at American. They close out the weekend hosting Minnesota and ECU in the Cavalier Classic Tournament on Saturday and Sunday
- Virginia is off to a 5-0 start to the season for the first time since 2015-16. They are looking for their first 6-0 start to a season since 1997-98
- The five-straight victories are the longest win streak for the team since winning eight in a row during the 2017-18 season (Dec. 17- Jan. 11)
- On Sunday at American, all 11 players scored in the game, with eight scoring in the first quarter alone. It was the third time (out of five games) this season that every player who was dressed for the game scored in the game. Every player also had at least one rebound at American, the second time this season that happened
- Virginia is averaging 48.0 rebounds per game, ranking 17th in the nation. The Cavaliers’ plus-14.6 rebound margin ranks 22nd
- Virginia is averaging 45. 2 points in the paint per game
- Virginia is third in the ACC in fewest turnovers per game at 12.6 per contest
- All five of Virginia’s starters are averaging double figures
- Taylor Valladay scored 19 points on Sunday at American, scoring 11 in the fourth quarter. She scored in double figures in a single quarter in back-to-back games after a 10-point third quarter last Tuesday at Loyola Chicago
- Camryn Taylor leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game
- Mir McLean leads the team in rebounding at 6.8 per game. She is also averaging 2.0 steals per game
- Sam Brunelle is shooting 49.1 percent from the field (26-of-53) and is a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
- Campbell is 3-1 with its lone setback coming in a 62-60 loss against UCF, a team that is receiving votes in the AP poll
- The Fighting Camels are coming off an 81-34 home win against South Carolina State on Saturday
- Campbell won last year’s Big South regular-season title but were edged by Longwood in the tournament championship game. They have won two of the last three regular-season titles in the league
- The Camels were the Big South’s automatic qualifier to the 2022 WNIT, their first time playing in the tournament. They lost in the first round against Liberty
- Graduate guard Shy Tuelle is a Preseason All-Big South first-team selection, averaging 16.8 points per game
- The Camels were voted third in the Big South preseason poll
- Head coach Ronny Fisher In six seasons under Fisher, Campbell has won 119 games for an average of nearly 20 wins per season. As the current longest-tenured Big South coach with 14 seasons under his belt, Fisher leads all active coaches in the conference with 216 total and 136 Big South wins. Campbell won the 2019-20 and 2021-22 Big South regular season titles and finished as Big South tournament runner-up in 2019, 2021 and 2022
- This is the first meeting between the two teams since 1979
- The all-time series is tied 1-1

Virginia hosts the Cavalier Classic tournament Saturday and Sunday, facing Minnesota (3-1) and East Carolina (4-1). UVA plays at 2 p.m. with Liberty (2-1) anchoring 5 p.m. games on both days.
