Women’s Golf: UVA begins play at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

The No. 13 Virginia women’s golf team opened play at the 11th Annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Monday. The Cavaliers shot 23-over 307 and are tied for 15th place. LSU and South Carolina lead the field at 1-under 283 at the par-71 Long Cove Club.

Jennifer Cleary led UVA’s scoring with a performance of 4-over 75. She is in 40th place after the opening 18 holes. Riley Smyth and Celeste Valinho each posted rounds of 76 and are tied for 51st. Megan Propeck is in 79th place at 80 and Amanda Sambach is 85th after shooting 82.

Auburn’s Megan Schofill leads the field after shooting 4-under 67. Only eight players managed to break par in the windy conditions.

Tuesday’s second round gets underway at 9:20 a.m. Live results are online at Golfstat.com. Golf Channel is broadcasting live from the event from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. each day.
