The Virginia men’s tennis team hosts Duke in the Round of 16 of the 2023 NCAA Men’s Tennis Team Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort.

The matches are scheduled to be played outdoors. Please monitor Virginia’s social media accounts for any weather-related changes.

TICKET INFORMATION

  • $5 for general admission and $3 for students with a valid ID per day
  • Ages 2 and up are required to have a ticket
  • Tickets will be available for purchase online, over the phone, or at the Bryant Hall ticket office and can be picked up at the courts

MATCH INFORMATION

  • The matches will be covered in the Cracked Racquets Cross Court Cast on their YouTube Channel
  • Individual court streams will also be available on VirginiaSports.com
  • Live scoring will be available for all of the matches

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Virginia (26-4) brings an 18-match win streak into the tournament. The Cavaliers’ last loss was on the third day of ITA Indoors on Feb. 19 against Ohio State
  • Virginia has not lost an outdoor match this season
  • Virginia has won 48 straight matches against ACC opponents including conference matches, out-of-conference dual matches and tournament play. UVA’s last loss against an ACC foe was a 4-2 loss to UNC at ITA Indoors on Feb. 13, 2021
  • Chris Rodesch has won his last 10 completed singles matches. The MVP of the ACC Championship is 24-6 in singles this season with a 15-1 record on the No. 1 court. He has four victories this year against players ranked in the top five of the singles rankings
  • Rodesch earned a 9-16 seed in the NCAA Singles championship, his first time being seeded in the tournament and his second time earning a spot in the field. He is No. 9 in the updated singles rankings
  • Iñaki Montes earned invitations to compete in both the doubles and singles championships. Montes and Ryan Goetz earned a 5-8 seed in the doubles tournament and are No. 8 in this week’s rankings
  • Montes is ranked No. 26 in the ITA singles rankings
  • Goetz won the clinching points for the Cavaliers in both the ACC semifinal and championship matches. Goetz is 17-2 at No. 4 singles this season
  • Goetz has 20 wins in singles and doubles, going 21-7 in the latter including a 17-6 record in dual matches
  • Jeffrey von der Schulenburg is 13-1 in his last 14 singles matches (all completed). He is 28-7 overall in singles with an 18-3 record at No. 3
  • von der Schulenburg earned his third invitation to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship. He is the only current player to play in three straight NCAA individual championships. He is No. 49 in the latest ITA singles rankings
  • von der Schulenburg picked up the clinching point in Virginia’s win against Ole Miss in the second round of the NCAA tournament
  • Alex Kiefer went 10-0 in singles in conference play. He won two matches in last week’s first and second rounds of the NCAA Championship
  • The Cavaliers have a combined record of 110-26 in singles in dual matches this spring for an .809 win percentage

VIRGINIA & NCAA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

  • The reigning NCAA Champions are looking for their sixth NCAA title
  • This is Virginia’s 19th-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance
  • The Cavaliers have advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 in 17 of the last 18 championships, the quarterfinals in 15 of the last 17, the semifinals in 11 of the past 15 and seven of the last 11 finals
  • Virginia is the five seed in this year’s championship (bracket). The Cavaliers were the seven seed last year when they won the title
  • The winner of the Charlottesville Super Regional will take on the winner of the Lexington, Kentucky Super Regional on Thursday, May 18 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

SCOUTING DUKE

  • Virginia won the regular season meeting 7-0 and downed the Blue Devils 4-1 in the ACC Final three weeks ago (April 23)
  • Virginia head coach Andres Pedroso is a Duke alum. Pedroso helped lead the Blue Devils to four ACC titles, was a two-time All-American and was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Team
  • Pedroso and Duke head coach Ramsey Smith were teammates on the Blue Devils, both graduating in 2001 from Duke
  • Duke (22-6) holds a 54-48 advantage in the all-time series. UVA has won the last five meetings
