Virginia women’s tennis players Julia Adams and Mélodie Collard have advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship being held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
Adams and Collard, who are ranked No. 10 in the ITA doubles rankings, will face North Carolina’s No. 11 Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig on Friday in the national semifinals. The championship match will be held on Saturday. Times for both are to be announced.
On Tuesday evening, Adams and Collard opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win against No. 23 Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter of UC Santa Barbara. On Wednesday, the Cavaliers won a pair of tiebreakers to take down No. 9 Nell Miller and Amelia Rajecki of NC State, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7) in the Round of 16. They topped No. 17 Katherine Duong and Megan Hesuer of Illinois 6-1, 6-3 on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
This is the second time in program history that a Cavalier duo has advanced to the semifinals, matching the run of Rosie Johanson and Emma Navarro in 2021.
Adams earned at-large invitations to compete in both the singles and doubles championships. Natasha Subhash earned an at-large invitation to the singles championship.
Adams lost in the first round of the singles tournament while Subhash defeated No. 48 Daria Kuczer of Tennessee in the opener before falling against No. 14 Fangran Tian in the Round of 32.
Adams played four seasons at Furman before coming to Virginia as a grad transfer in the fall of 2022. This is Adams’s second straight year of playing in both the singles and doubles championships and her third overall appearance in doubles. This is Collard’s first time playing in the individual championships.
