McCarthy fourth at Travelers; Stanger fourth in Korn Ferry event

Moving day didn’t see a lot of positive movement for former Virginia golfers on the PGA and Korn Ferry Tours on Saturday.
Denny McCarthy, the first-round leader and second-day, co-leader at the Traveler’s, finished in a tie for fourth in Saturday’s play, six shots behind Keegan Bradley. McCarthy, who posted a 10-under 60 on Thursday and a 5-under 65 on Friday, managed to turn in an even-par 70 on Saturday and will have to go low to have a shot at scoring his first PGA Tour win in Sunday’s final round.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Stanger, who leapt up the leaderboard into a tie for second place in the Korn Ferry’s Compliance Solutions Championship on Friday, slipped a bit Saturday, even after carding a 5-under-par score.
The former Cavalier, who has made eight-consecutive cuts, scored six birdies Saturday and is tied for fourth, standing at 16-under for the tournament. He trails leader, Korn Ferry rookie Tim Widing, by two strokes.
Two other former Wahoos in the event also slipped during Saturday’s third round. Thomas Walsh, who was tied for 15th, posted an even-par round and dropped into a tie for 42nd along with another former UVA golfer, Ben Kohles, whose 1-under score dropped him from 35th. Both stand at 8-under par for the tournament.
Kohles stands atop the Korn Ferry Tour points standings for the season.
