Former UVA lineman Fady Chamoun passes away in Ohio

Virginia Football has lost one of its warriors. Fady Chamoun, 47, a key member of the Cavaliers’ offensive line in the late ‘90s, passed away on June 27 in Canfield, Ohio.

Chamoun was honorable mention All-ACC in his senior season, 1998, and helped lead the way for a fierce UVA running attack led by All-American running back Thomas Jones (more than 1,300 yards rushing that season).

“Fady was one of the most humble and down-to-Earth people I’ve ever met,” Jones said over the weekend. “But on the field, he was relentless. He was a huge part of our success in ‘98 on the ground and was excellent in pass protection (keeping pass rushers off QB Aaron Brooks).

“If he hadn’t hurt his knee, Fady definitely would have played in the NFL. He was a very quiet man but his presence was loud. We lost a great man, teammate, and he will be dearly missed.”

Chamoun is survived by his wife, Rama, his children, Camille and Anthony, his mother Lucie, and his siblings Sandra, Laurie and Joey.
