The 67th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, recognizing academic excellence by student-athletes during the 2022-23 academic year, was announced Friday by the league.
Virginia placed an all-time department-best of 568 student-athletes on the Honor Roll. A total of 69 Cavaliers were recognized for the fourth time during their careers and 15 received the honor for the fifth time. That group includes: Michael Battista (wrestling), Courtlynne Caskin (women’s lacrosse), Payton Cormier (men’s lacrosse), Rebecca Jarrett (women’s soccer), Emma Jinks (women’s squash), Derek Johnson (men’s cross country and track & field), Petey LaSalla (men’s lacrosse), Patrick McCormick (wrestling), Justin McCoy (wrestling), Jack Montague (men’s golf), Robby Patrick (wrestling), Grayson Sallade (men’s lacrosse), Cade Saustad (men’s lacrosse), Riley Smyth (women’s golf) and Alexa Spaanstra (women’s soccer).
The ACC Academic Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year. This marks the most-ever student-athlete honorees (5,942) and fourth consecutive year in which at least 5,500 ACC student-athletes have achieved Honor Roll status.
During the course of the year, UVA had a record 363 student-athletes named to ACC All-Academic teams and five were named Scholar-Athletes of the Year for their respective sport – Kate Douglass (women’s swimming), Owayne Owens (indoor men’s track and field), Chris Rodesch (men’s tennis), Connor Shellenberger (men’s lacrosse) and Ethan Dabbs (outdoor men’s track and field) were named the ACC Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
