Wahoos in the mix for talented D.C. guard Lewis
By Jerry Ratcliffe
When we mentioned in our most recent Scattershooting notes a couple of days ago that Virginia has been looking at D.C. combo guard Acaden Lewis since the beginning of his sophomore year, we didn’t realize that the 4-star would get an offer from the Cavaliers the very next night.
Lewis, a 6-foot-3 standout from the recruiting class of 2025 (see a complete chart of all Virginia basketball offers at end of this article) announced on his Twitter, or, err ‘X’ account that he had received the offer from UVA.
Associate head coach Jason Williford has had his eyes on Lewis, who has a seven-foot wingspan, for quite some time. Now, Virginia has joined a growing list of suitors for the Sidwell Friends School left-hander. Lewis already had offers from St. John’s, Penn State, Oregon, Georgetown, Nebraska and Providence, among others.

A playmaker with quick hands, gritty defense, and regarded as one of the top scoring guards in the ‘25 class, Lewis is rated among the top 100 prospects in the composite rankings of all the major recruiting services, as high as No. 69 to as low as No. 94. They all rate him among the top 13 players at his position nationally and either the No. 2 or No. 3 overall prospect in the basketball-rich D.C. area.
Lewis, like many of the ‘25 Virginia offers, really rose to prominence during the summer camps and EYBL Circuit games. At the Nike Elite’s Top 100 Camp, Lewis was one of the top five scorers for the week, putting up 120 points. In a summer game for EYBL’s Team Durant in June, Lewis either scored or assisted on 43 of his team’s 51 points. In that game, he was 12 of 22 from the field, including 27 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.
As mentioned in the Scattershooting piece, Lewis told StockRisers: “[Virginia] started recruiting me at the beginning of my sophomore year. I went on an unofficial visit and liked it. I’ve built a relationship with Coach Williford and they text and call me routinely so they are definitely in the mix.”
