Pair of state’s top prospects visit Virginia basketball over weekend

Tony Bennett and Virginia’s basketball team not only hosted alums Anthony Gill and Justin Anderson at Friday night’s football game with NC State, but also hosted two of the top future prospects in the state of Virginia.

Nate Ament, a 6-foot-8 forward from Colgan High in Manassas, and Latrell Allmond, a 6-7 forward from John Marshall High in Richmond, were both in Charlottesville over the weekend to check out the Cavaliers.

Ament, from the recruiting class of 2025, is considered the top prospect in the state for his class, while Allmond, who was on an unofficial visit, is a 4-star from the recruiting class of 2026.

Allmond, who was offered by UVA last January, is a top-30 recruit nationally in his class via composite rankings. He averaged 12 points and 9.5 rebounds last season for Marshall. Formerly from North Carolina, Allmond has been offered by Virginia, Georgia, LSU, Georgetown, Rutgers, NC State, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, along with Florida State.

Ament, also a 4-star, is a top-20 composite prospect for the ‘25 class. He averaged 15.4 points per game last season and shot 37.8 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Ament holds lots of offers, including UVA, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Pitt, LSU, Illinois, Wake Forest, Iowa, Creighton, Penn State, Providence and Mississippi State.
