BREAKING: Courtney commits to Cavaliers

The Virginia football program made some noise in the recruiting world on Tuesday when the Cavaliers gained a commitment from 3-star Freedom (Woodbridge) HS product Kameron Courtney.

Courtney is a 6-foot, 190-pound “athlete” who decommitted from Indiana when the Hoosiers made a recent coaching change. Courtney visited UVA last weekend, liked what he saw, and will likely be used as a wide receiver for the Wahoos.

The 3-star was a standout, two-way performer for two-time state champion Freedom High where he was a receiver on offense, a safety on defense and also served as a kick return specialist. Courtney committed to Indiana during the summer, selecting the Hoosiers over North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Pitt. However, when IU fired coach Tom Allen, and replaced him with JMU coach Curt Cignetti, Courtney decided to decommit and re-open his recruitment.

Indiana liked Courtney as a safety, but reportedly Virginia will give the versatile prospect a look on offense as a receiver.

For Tony Elliott’s staff to land Courtney is a feather in the cap for the Cavaliers for a couple of reasons. One, UVA gets another quality commitment from within the state borders, and two, Elliott gets his recruiting foot in the door at Freedom High, which has been dominant in the Commonwealth the past two seasons.
