Vanderbilt’s Lang, former St. Anne’s forward, commits to UVA

Virginia continued to add depth to next season’s roster on Tuesday when former St. Anne’s-Belfield standout Carter Lang, who played last season at Vanderbilt, announced on Twitter that he is joining Tony Bennett’s program. Lang is apparently walking on at UVA, which still leaves the Cavaliers with one more scholarship.

Lang, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward, played for Jerry Stackhouse last season at Vandy, where he appeared in 24 games (including seven starts) for the Commodores. He posted 8-plus rebounds in four games and had season highs of 8 points and 11 rebounds.

A 3-star for Damin Altizer at St. Anne’s, Lang was his conference’s MVP as a junior and senior, with Chance Mallory running the point. Mallory, a highly-rated point guard for the Class of 2025, reportedly will visit UVA.

While at STAB, Lang averaged a double-double (18 points, 15 rebounds) and 1.5 blocked shots. In his lone season at Vanderbilt, Lang averaged 11.5 minutes per game, 1.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.4 blocked shots (9 total), and shot 43 percent from the field (17 for 40) and 50 percent from the free throw line (10 for 20). He attempted only one 3-point field goal and missed.

Virginia added two players from the transfer portal to its roster on Monday, 6-9 stretch 4 TJ Power from Duke, and 6-8 forward Elijah Saunders from San Diego State. Over the weekend, the Cavaliers gained a commitment from Florida State point guard Jalen Warley.
