McCarthy, Kohles finish in top 60 at U.S. Open

Two former UVA golfers, Denny McCarthy and Ben Kohles, finished in the top 56 of the U.S. Open field at Pinehurst on Sunday.
McCarthy, playing in his fifth U.S. Open, finished in a tie for 32nd with a 7-over par 287. McCarthy, a member of the PGA Tour, closed out his Pinehurst experience with a 3-over par 73 on the famed No. 2 course, host of four U.S. Opens. McCarthy posted rounds of 76-67-72-73 over the four rounds.
Meanwhile, Kohles, also a PGA Tour player, tied at No. 56 at 12-over for the week. Kohles fired a 1-over on Sunday and recorded rounds of 77-68-76-71 in the event.
Another Virginia golfer, sophomore Ben James, competing as an amateur, missed the cut by a single stroke.
