Virginia lands 2 defensive back commitments over weekend

Virginia picked up commitments from a pair of 3-star defensive backs from the recruiting class of 2025 on Sunday after the duo had made official visits to Charlottesville. Coach Tony Elliott’s program now has 14 commitments to the ‘25 class.

Davin Chandler, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety from Stephen Decatur High in Berlin, Md., and Montino Williams Jr., a 6-3, 207-pound cornerback from Chesterfield’s Matoaca High, both committed to the Cavaliers within hours of one another.

Williams is the fifth in-state commitment in the class. He chose the Wahoos over Pitt, Minnesota, JMU, Coastal Carolina, ODU, ECU and Temple.

Williams was a two-way standout at Matoaca, where he posted 4 interceptions, 5 passes broken up and 36 solo tackles as a junior. Offensively, he collected more than 1,000 total yards, including 941 rushing (10 TDs) on 117 attempts, and 375 yards receiving (4 TDs) on 22 catches.

Chandler is rated the No. 54 safety in the 2025 class nationally and the No. 19 overall prospect in the state of Maryland.

He chose UVA over Boston College, West Virginia, Air Force, Army, South Florida, ECU, Arkansas State, Temple and others.

Chandler is also a two-way performer and was named all-conference as a defensive back, wide receiver and punt returner.
