While Virginia’s swimmers were busy striking gold at the Paris Olympics, UVA wide receivers coach Adam Mims struck gold in Atlanta this weekend, landing a huge commitment from 4-star wide receiver prospect Josiah Abdullah.

Abdullah, the 18th commitment for Virginia’s recruiting class of 2025, had more than 50 offers, many from some of the nation’s most powerful football programs. He decommitted from Florida in June and re-opened his recruitment.

A product of Woodward Academy in the Atlanta suburbs, Abdullah chose Virginia over offers from Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, Missouri, Florida State, Auburn, Colorado, North Carolina, Maryland, Kentucky, Kansas, Maryland, Pitt and many more.

Former Alabama coaching legend Nick Saban came after Abdullah twice before retiring.

While other recruiting services rate the Peach State wide receiver a 3-star, it would appear, due to the list of offers, that Abdullah is a 4-star. He is rated the No. 34 wide receiver in the nation by one service.

Perhaps his size was held against him by some services. He’s 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, but Abdullah took particular interest in what 5-9 Malik Washington did at Virginia last season as he smashed Cavalier receiving records, was rated among the top receivers in the nation and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins.
