Robinson, Carter announce they’ll return to UVA for ’25

Virginia’s defense got some good news in that two experienced players have decided to return for 2025.

Kam Robinson, an All-ACC honorable mention linebacker, announced via social media that he will return for his junior season, while defensive lineman Jahmeer Carter announced he will return for his sixth and final season as a Cavalier.

Meanwhile, former UNLV defensive end Fisher Camac visited UVA on Thursday. Camac is a 6-foot-7, 250-pound edge rusher who recorded 7.5 quarterback sacks and 34 pressures this past season for the Rebels, while also posting 14 tackles for loss and 45 total tackles.

Robinson, at 6-2, 234 pounds, was Virginia’s second-leading tackler in 2024 with 64 overall stops, including 37 solos, a team-leading 5 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, an interception, two passes defended and a forced fumble.

The highest-rated recruit during the Tony Elliott era, Robinson chose Virginia over Florida State. He is a key figure for the 2025 defense in what should be his best year as a Cavalier.

UVA should be solid with its linebacking corps, especially if James Jackson can obtain a waiver for an extra year after exhausting his eligibility. The Cavaliers also return Trey McDonald and have added Eastern Kentucky linebacker Maddox Marcellus. Virginia returns Steve Bracey, who missed last season with a torn meniscus.

Gone is Dorian Jones.

Meanwhile, Carter will bolster a somewhat depleted defensive line with Kam Butler and Chico Bennett out of eligibility and with Michael Diatta, Ben Smiley and Bryce Carter having entered the transfer portal.

Jahmeer Carter is 6-2, 302 pounds, and takes up a lot of space on the D-Line, which returns Jason Hammond and Anthony Britton. UVA brought in three linemen via the portal in Hunter Osborne (Alabama), Cazeem Moore (Elon) and Jacob Holmes (Fresno State).

Carter has 55 games under his belt as a Cavalier and has 134 career tackles, 45 solos, 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
