Another in-state, top-20 recruit picks UVA over Hokies
By Jerry Ratcliffe
Tony Elliott’s Wahoos landed their second in-state prospect in two days on Monday when Varina High School wide receiver Da’Mari Carter announced his commitment to Virginia.
Carter, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound, 3-star athlete, chose UVA over Virginia Tech and Maryland. He also considered Indiana, Pitt, West Virginia, Boston College, Duke, ECU and a few others.
The Richmond native joined Oscar Smith cornerback Jayden Covil as the second in-state commit in two days (see story on this site). Covil also chose UVA over Virginia Tech (where his brother plays), UConn and Wake Forest.
Carter is Virginia’s fourth in-state commitment for the recruiting class of 2026 and the third wide-receiver commitment, including Josiah Teasley and Dylan Cope. Carter is UVA’s 11th commitment to the class.
He is ranked as high as the No. 17 overall prospect in the state (by On3) to 21 (Rivals) and No. 26 (247Sports).
Carter visited UVA and Tech on back-to-back weekends last month, but ultimately chose the Cavaliers, giving Virginia back-to-back recruiting wins over the Hokies in the last two days.
