The No. 1 Virginia men’s tennis team fell by a count of 4-2 to No. 4 Wake Forest on Sunday at the Wake Forest Tennis Center in Winston-Salem.
After the Demon Deacons (22-2, 8-0 ACC) clinched the doubles point following dominant wins on courts two and three, the Cavaliers put up a fight in singles. Virginia (15-3, 7-1) took six sets to 7-5 scores or tiebreakers, four of those on courts that fell to Wake Forest.
No. 2 Dylan Dietrich and No. 42 Andres Santamarta Roig earned the points for the Cavaliers. Dietrich won 6-3, 6-4 against No. 21 DK Suresh Ekambaram on the top court while Santamarta Roig topped Charlie Robertson 7-6 (5), 6-1 on court four.
UP NEXT
The Cavaliers are back on the road next weekend, visiting Florida State on Friday and Miami on Sunday.
