Ryan Odom has strengthened Virginia’s backcourt issues with Thursday night’s commitment of big combo-guard Jan Vide, a transfer from Loyola Marymount.

Vide (pronounced Yan Vee-Day), is a 6-foot-6, 210-pound guard originally from Slovenia and will be a senior this coming season. He was rated a 4-star as a prep player and the No. 68 overall player in his recruiting class before signing with UCLA.

Vide struggled to get consistent playing time with the Bruins and transferred to Loyola for the past two seasons.

He averaged 12.1 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds for the Lions last season, while starting 27 games. He ranked 10th in the West Coast Conference with 108 assists, shot 45.3 percent from the field, 32.3 percent from the 3-point arc and 75.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The big guard, described as an excellent ball handler who can create and penetrate the lane, scored a career-high 28 points against Washington State last season. He scored in double-figures in 18 of 27 games, including the final seven games of the season.

Vide played for the Slovenia 2023 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup team and averaged 17.9 points per game.

His addition gives Odom another solid ball handler in his backcourt, which was the last question mark in the roster for the upcoming campaign.
