As reported exactly one month ago on “The Jerry & Jerry Show,” Virginia’s Elijah Gertrude will miss this coming basketball season due to a severe knee injury suffered in a scooter accident.

UVA finally — again, 30 days after the story broke live on “The Jerry & Jerry Show,” the same day we revealed that former Kansas State point guard Dei Dei Ames had committed to Virginia (also a miss by the state’s major news outlets) — officially confirmed that Gertrude would miss the coming season. The sophomore guard from Jersey City, N.J., injured his right knee in the accident, which occurred on April 30. Gertrude underwent successful surgery on May 17, three days after the injury was reported on the live internet TV show.

“Elijah will miss the 2024-25 season after suffering a knee injury in an unfortunate accident,” Virginia coach Tony Bennett said in a news release on Friday. “He had a solid first season on Grounds and was off to a terrific start in our offseason workouts. Elijah’s surgery went well and he is already working hard on his rehabilitation.”
