Alix Still opens NCAA Indoor Championships for UVA

Junior Alix Still (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) opened the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships for Virginia with a 13th-place finish to earn second-team All-America honors. Still became the first Cavalier to earn All-America honors in the event since the 1982 season.

Ranked No. 14 entering the pentathlon, Still compiled a total of 3904 points and recorded two personal best marks during the day. She opened the competition with a collegiate best in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.62 seconds. That ranks ninth on UVA’s all-time performance list for the event.

Still later set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 5.80 meters (19’0.5”). She ended the day placing eighth in the 800-meter run, her top finish in any event during the contest.

“I am really proud of the progress Alix made this season,” said Vin Lananna, UVA’s director of track and field and cross country. “She and coach (Mario) Wilson assembled an impressive season. I look forward to watching her compete this spring.”

The last UVA competitor to receive All-America honors in the pentathlon was Susan Brownell in 1982. She was a three-time All-American for the Cavaliers from 1980 to 1982.

On Friday, day two of the NCAA Indoor Championships will feature UVA’s Jada Seaman in the long jump and Halle Hazzard in the prelims of the 60-meter dash. Owayne Owens will compete in the triple jump on Saturday.
