Another Wahoo defensive player has elected to put his name into the NCAA transfer portal, making three Cavaliers in the portal as of 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Mekhi Buchanan, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound edge rusher from Ackworth, Ga., will finish his UVA career with 20 tackles, 2 TFLs and 1 PBU. The junior has three years of eligibility remaining.

Buchanan played in five games this past season, breaking up one pass as a reserve. He did not appear in a game in 2024 and was an All-ACC Academic team member in 2023.

Two other Cavaliers had previously entered the portal, starting cornerback Ja’Son Prevard (see related story previously on this site) and reserve offensive lineman Tyshawn Wyatt of Richmond, a redshirt senior.
