Virginia coach Tony Elliott said Wednesday that there have been talks about quarterback Chandler Morris returning for another year with the Cavaliers.

“Still, that’s to be determined,” Elliott said. “So, not going to say if that’s going to happen or not. So we’re planning as if it’s not. So we want to continue to bring in guys (at the quarterback position).”

Morris just finished his sixth year of college football and led UVA to a 10-2 season and a spot in Saturday night’s ACC Championship game against Duke (8 p.m., ABC). The Texan has thrown for 2,586 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, completing 66 percent of his passes, along with 248 yards rushing and five additional TDs.

Virginia has requested a waiver to grant Morris another season of eligibility. Morris signed with Oklahoma in 2020 where he played five games with a Covid waiver. He played in four games in 2021 for TCU, and played in only three games at TCU in 2022 when he suffered a season-ending injury.
