Virginia’s Ethan Dabbs and Claudio Romero are set to compete at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., from July 15-24. The current Cavalier athletes will be joined by UVA alums Filip Mihaljevic, Hilmar Jonsson, Jordan Scott and Andrenette Knight.

Dabbs is set to represent the United States in the javelin after winning gold at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in June, which also took place at Hayward Field. The Pennsylvania native brings a UVA-record mark of 82.92 meters to Oregon.

After qualifying on entry standards in April, Romero enters the discus competition for Chile as the NCAA Champion in the event. His personal-best mark of 67.02 meters set at the Penn Relays, ranks No. 1 in Virginia history.

Mihaljevic, a three-time NCAA champion with the Cavaliers, is set to compete in the shot put for Croatia. He brings a season-best mark of 21.18 meters to the competition, which ranks 17th in the world in 2022.

Hilmar Orn Jonsson, an All-American at UVA in 2019, will compete in the hammer throw for his home country of Iceland. Jonsson’s season-best mark sits at 75.52 meters.

Jordan Scott, an NCAA champion and seven-time All-American at Virginia, will represent Jamaica in the triple jump. Scott has jumped a season-best of 16.69 meters this season.

Andrenette Knight will also represent Jamaica in the 400-meter hurdles. Knight was a three-time All-American for the Cavaliers and a two-time ACC champion.

The World Athletics Championships will be broadcast by NBC and streamed live on Peacock. Live results will be available on the World Athletics Website.
