Four Cavaliers earn ACC women’s lacrosse honors

The Virginia women’s lacrosse team had four players earn ACC Honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Graduate student Meredith Chapman (Apex, N.C.) and junior Annie Dyson (Alexandra, Va.) were both named All-ACC Second Team, while Mackenzie Hoeg (Mattituck, N.Y.) and Maggie Bostain (Richmond, Va.) were selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Chapman, a defender, ranks third in the ACC in ground balls per game (2.27) and fifth in caused turnovers per game (1.33). She leads UVA with 34 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers on the season and also has 25 draw controls. Chapman has multiple ground balls in 11 contests, including a career-high five in the win at James Madison. She has forced multiple caused turnovers in seven games, with a career-high three twice. Chapman also had a career-high five draw controls against Notre Dame.
Dyson, a midfielder, has been solid on both sides of the ball this season. The Top 25 Tewaaraton nominee leads the team with 47 draw controls and is second in ground balls (29) and caused turnovers (13). Dyson ranks 10th in the ACC in draw controls per game (3.13). She is fourth on the team with 29 points on 21 goals and eight assists. Dyson has scored multiple goals in six games, with three hat tricks. She recorded a career-high eight draw controls in the first meeting with Virginia Tech and had a career-best six ground balls at Boston College. Dyson had a career-best four caused turnovers in two contests.
Hoeg has made an immediate impact for the Cavaliers. The freshman midfielder has taken the majority of the draws for UVA and is second on the team with 38 draw controls. She has 25 points on 17 goals and eight assists this season. Hoeg had at least one goal and one assist in the first six games of the season. She has scored multiple goals in six games, including a career-high three goals against Virginia Tech. She grabbed a career-best nine draw controls in the win at Richmond and has eight or more in three games.
Bostain has also provided a spark for UVA. The midfielder is third on the team in caused turnovers (12) and fourth in draw controls (38). Bostain has 18 points on 13 goals and five assists. She has recorded at least one draw control, one ground ball and one caused turnover in six games. Bostain has scored multiple goals in three games, including a career-high three goals in the win over Louisville. She had a career-high four draw controls against VCU and a career-best three ground balls at North Carolina.
Virginia will be back in action on Wednesday in the ACC Quarterfinals against Boston College at 7:30 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
