Daniel Freitag, a 2024 four-star point guard, committed to Wisconsin Friday, choosing the Badgers over Virginia, Baylor, Minnesota and Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder also held scholarship offers from Iowa and Iowa State, and was gaining interest from Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State, but ultimately decided to play his college ball in Madison for head coach Greg Gard.

Freitag, who was also considering playing football or trying out a possible two-sport career, said his relationship with Gard made all the difference in his choice.

“I’m all-in on Wisconsin basketball,” Freitag told 247Sports’ Evan Flood. “I understood the conversations and talks that I would have a better chance at being a pro in football with my size being perfect for that sport, but what made me decide was my relationship with Coach Gard. If he was a football coach, I would have chosen football. He and I were too close to not choose him.”

UVA has offered scholarships to three other talented point guards in the Class of ‘24 — 6-2 Travis Perry (Eddyville, Ky.), 6-4 Christian Bliss (Newtown, Pa.) and 6-4 Trent Perry (Studio City, Calif.).
