‘Hoos finish Day 1 of Wake Forest Invitational in fifth place

The Virginia men’s golf team finished the first day of play at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2 in fifth place. The Cavaliers’ two-round total of 21-over 581 included rounds of 13-over 293 and 8-over 288. Pinehurst No. 2 is playing as a par-70 course for the event.

UVA was led by freshman George Duangmanee (Fairfax, Va.) who shot rounds of 70 and 72 and ended the day in 11th place at 2-over 142. Senior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) shot 77 and 70 and is 28th at 147. Sophomore Pietro Bovari (Milano, Italy) had rounds of 72 and 76 and is one shot behind Orischak in 33rd position.

Seniors WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) and Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) are tied for 35th place at 9-over 149. Massie shot 78 and 71 while Gao posted scores of 74 and 75. UVA freshman Grayson Wotnosky (Wake Forest, N.C.), competing as an individual, is in 52nd place at 154.

Second-ranked Wake Forest leads the 12-team field at 4-under 281. The Deacons’ Michael Brennan holds down first place in the medalist competition at 3-under 137.
