Jarrett, Spaanstra earn Scholar All-Region Honors

Virginia women’s soccer players Rebecca Jarrett and Alexa Spaanstra have been named Scholar All-Region selections by the United Soccer Coaches.
Spaanstra (Brighton, Mich.) was a first-team selection, while Jarrett (Washington Township, N.J.) was a second-team selection. By being a first-team selection, Spaanstra is eligible for Scholar All-America honors.
To be eligible for selection, candidates must be a at least a junior in academic standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.40 for their career. Players must also have started at least 50 percent of games played and contribute significantly to the team.
Spaanstra finished the 2020-21 season with a total of 22 points as she tallied 10 goals and two assists. The forward turned in three game-winning goals and tallied a trio of braces as she scored both goals for Virginia in 2-0 wins over No. 13 Louisville in the fall and matched that with braces in NCAA Tournament victories over SIUE and No. 12 seed BYU to help push Virginia to the College Cup. She was named an All-ACC first team selection and an All-Region first-team selection by the United Soccer Coaches.
Jarrett finished the 2020-21 season with 11 points as she tallied four goals and three assists. Jarrett notched goals against Miami, Boston College, Syracuse and George Mason. Her goal at Syracuse was the game winner as the Cavaliers picked up the 5-3 win. She added two assists in the Miami game to match a career-high four points. She was an All-ACC second-team selection and was named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team.
