Lillie leads UVA to victory at The Match at Spring Creek

The No. 10 Virginia women’s golf team cruised to its second win of the season by defeating Old Dominion and Richmond in an 18-hole tournament at Spring Creek Golf Club on Friday. The Cavaliers shot 3-over 291 while ODU was second at 304 and Richmond was third at 309.

UVA senior Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) took medalist honors by shooting 1-under 71. It was her second collegiate victory. Cavalier sophomore Virginia Bossi (Como, Italy) was the runner-up with a score of even par 72. Freshman Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, Del.) was third at 73.

Junior Sky Sload (Keswik, Va.) was fourth overall at 2-over 74 and classmate Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, N.C.) tied for fifth at 3-over 75. Both Sload and Wotnosky competed as individuals and were not included in the Cavaliers’ team scoring.

Junior Riley Smyth (Cary, N.C.) also tied for fifth place while sophomore Celeste Valinho (Jacksonville, Fla.) was 14th at 77.

Virginia opened its 2021 season by winning the UCF Challenge

The Cavaliers’ next outing is March 13-14 at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
