Denny McCarthy finished the final round of the John Deere Classic on Sunday tied for sixth at 16-under par, continuing his hot streak.

The 29-year-old former UVA All-American has posted three top-10 finishes in his last four tournaments, including the Memorial, the U.S. Open and the John Deere. McCarthy was tied for second place heading into the final round and remained within striking distance, but J.T. Poston was unstoppable.

Poston finished at 21-under and became the event’s first wire-to-wire winner since 1992.

McCarthy was fighting for one of three spots available for the British Open, which instead went to Emiliano Grillo and Christopher Gotterup, who tied for second at 18-under.

After hitting all 18 greens in regulation in Saturday’s round, McCarthy couldn’t pull off that feat again Sunday, but still hit 12 of 18. He closed with a 71, firing a 66-65-66 the first three days of the tournament.
