Men’s Golf: Virginia in fifth place heading into final round in Puerto Rico

Freshmen Ben James and Bryan Lee both posted scores of 4-under 68 to lead Virginia during the second round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate in Puerto Rico Monday. The Cavaliers posted a second-round score of 4-under 284 and enter Tuesday’s final round in fifth place at 12-under 564. Cincinnati leads the 14-team field at 32-under 544 after shooting 19-under 269 during Monday’s play at TPC Dorado Beach Resort and Club Sugarcane Course.

James’ score allowed him to move up to eighth place at 7-under 137 after 36 holes of play. Lee is in 31st place at 3-under 141. Lee’s 68 matched his best single-round score as a collegiate. The Dorado Beach Collegiate is his third team event as a first-year at UVA.

Deven Patel shot 73 during the second round and dropped back to 39th at 1-under 143 while George Duangmanee is in 50th place at 1-over 145 after posting a score of 75 on Monday. Pietro Bovari enters the final round in 74th place at 150. He shot 79 during the second round. Jack Montague, who is competing as an individual competitor, is in 45th place at 144. He had a round of 71 on Monday.

UNCG’s Symon Balbin and Cincinnati’s Ryan Ford are tied for first place at 11-under 133.
