Virginia men’s soccer head coach George Gelnovatch announced the program’s 2023 schedule, featuring an 11-game home slate at Klöckner Stadium.

“We can’t wait to get back on the field this fall,” said Gelnovatch. “The schedule is tough, and we will face incredibly talented opponents on a weekly basis, but we are really excited about an excellent group of guys in our locker room who are up for the challenge. With eleven home games on the schedule, we are looking forward to being back in front of our fans at Klöckner Stadium.”

The 2023 ACC schedule includes home games with NC State (Sept. 16), Louisville (Sept. 29), Pitt (Oct. 13) and North Carolina (Oct. 27). The Cavaliers will travel to Duke (Sept. 8), Notre Dame (Sept. 22), Boston College (Oct. 6) and Virginia Tech (Oct. 20) in conference play.

In non-conference action, Virginia will host Iona (Aug. 24), Loyola Marymount (Aug. 27), George Mason (Aug. 31), Maryland (Sept. 4), East Tennessee State (Sept. 26), Hofstra (Oct. 3) and High Point (Oct. 24) at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers will make one road trip outside of ACC play to play James Madison (Sept. 12) in Harrisonburg.

Prior to the start of the regular season, Virginia will host three exhibition matches at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers will take on Patrick Henry CC (Aug. 12), Villanova (Aug. 15), and Duquesne (Aug. 19). Admission to all three exhibitions is free.

  • Virginia will host Maryland at Klöckner Stadium for the first time since the 2013 season when the teams faced off as ACC rivals. Virginia battled the Terrapins to a 3-3 draw the last time the teams went head-to-head in Charlottesville. The last four meetings between the programs have taken place at Audi Field in Washington D.C.
  • The Cavaliers renew a fierce rivalry when they hit the road to take on Notre Dame. Each of the last 11 matches contested between the two teams has been decided by a single goal or less, including a 2-1 Irish victory at Klöckner Stadium last season.
  • Virginia is set to match up with Pitt for the third time in two seasons when the Panthers visit Klöckner Stadium. Virginia logged a pair of wins against last season’s College Cup semifinalists, snapping a five-game winless streak against the Panthers.

  • 16 Regular season matches (11 home, five away)
  • Seven participants in 2022 NCAA Tournament (Maryland, Duke, Louisville, Hofstra, Pitt, High Point, North Carolina)
  • Virginia’s 2023 opponents accounted for eight wins in last season’s NCAA tournament
