Men’s Tennis: No. 8 UVA wins ninth-straight match with 5-2 victory at No. 13 Harvard

The No. 8 Virginia men’s tennis team closed out a three-match week with a 5-2 victory at No. 13 Harvard on Sunday at the Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass.

Virginia (17-4) trailed the Crimson 2-0 before winning five straight singles matches. Iñaki Montes won the clincher for the Cavaliers as UVA extended its winning streak to nine matches.

Harvard (12-4) won the doubles point with victories on the top two courts. The Crimson took a 2-0 lead with a straight-set victory on singles court six. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg picked up UVA’s first point with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court three. Chris Rodesch followed by downing von der Schulenburg’s brother, Henry, 6-2, 7-6 (5), to tie the match at 2-2.

Ryan Goetz followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court four followed moments later by Montes closing out his victory on the adjacent court. Måns Dahlberg rebounded from a 6-1 loss in his first set against Steven Sun to win the second 7-5. Dahlberg won a super-tiebreaker 10-3 to decide the third set and close out the Cavaliers’ 5-2 victory.

Virginia returns to ACC action next weekend, playing at No. 14 Wake Forest on Friday and at No. 25 NC State on Sunday.
