The University of Virginia Athletics Department announced the women’s basketball game at John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 20 against NC A&T will be the 2018 Field Trip Day game. The contest will start at 11 a.m.
Admission will be free for all students, teachers, administrators, and chaperones who register for the game online prior to the Oct. 26 deadline. The women’s basketball program hosted its first Field Trip Day in 2015. Virginia Athletics partnered with 40 local elementary and middle schools to welcome over 7,300 students to the game.

The Field Trip Day game includes packets that teachers can download prior to the game with activities that relate to current lesson plans that include nutrition, exercise, motor skills, as well as tips from student-athletes on preparing for college. There will also be a poster contest prior to the game with the winning classroom receiving a pizza party with the Virginia women’s basketball team. The women’s basketball student-athletes will visit select schools and classrooms to participate in pep rallies, PE classes, and reading programs.
On game day, some students and teachers will be selected to participate in on-court basketball skills challenges as well as in-game promotions related to nutrition, math, and language arts. Professional instructors will lead students and teachers in physical fitness activities such as dance, stretching, and yoga. Some students will be pre-selected to participate in a pregame tunnel and starting lineups as well as serve as ball kids and guest coaches and a classroom will be pre-selected to perform The National Anthem and The Good Old Song at the game.
The lower rows of sections 101-105 will be held for season ticket holders for this game. As with all games, some seats in these sections will be held for guests of participating teams. Season ticket holders will receive a ticket for this game but will not have access to their usual season ticket seating location.

Field Hockey Team Plays Sunday In Lynchburg
The No. 7 Virginia field hockey team (3-2, 1-0 ACC) travels to play at No. 20 Liberty (3-2, 0-0 Big East) on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. in Lynchburg, Va.
The game will stream on ESPN+, a subscription-based streaming service that is accessible through the ESPN app. Live stats will also be available through a link posted on VirginiaSports.com.
The Cavaliers were originally slated to play at No. 1 North Carolina on Friday evening, but the game was postponed due to Hurricane Florence with a reschedule date still to be announced.
Virginia moved back up to No. 7 in this week’s Penn Monto/NFHCA rankings after playing a pair of top-25 opponents last week. Both of the Cavaliers’ games last week were 2-1 overtime contests with UVA topping No. 10 Syracuse on Friday in double overtime before falling to No. 21 Old Dominion on Sunday in one extra period.
Freshman Greer Gill (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored the game-winning goal against Syracuse. A freshman has scored the game-winner in all three Cavalier victories this season. Freshman Grace Wallis (Blue Bell, Pa.) leads the team with 10 points. Going back to UVA’s final goal of the season-opener against Drexel, Wallis has either scored or assisted on each of UVA’s last six goals, including setting up Gill’s game-winner against the Orange.
Virginia is currently seventh in the NCAA in goals-against average, allowing 0.95 per game. Senior goalkeeper Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.) leads the ACC in saves with 31 and has the best save percentage among the starting goalkeepers in the conference at .861.
Liberty, which fell from No. 16 to No. 20 in this week’s Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches’ Poll, leads the nation in scoring average (4.47) with Agueda Moroni scoring an NCAA-best 2.25 goals per game and 5.25 points per game. Liberty is coming off a 2-1 loss to Longwood on Tuesday night. They were scheduled to play Temple on Friday, but that game has been postponed and will now be played on Monday.
Virginia is 4-0 all-time against Liberty, which added field hockey in 2011. The Cavaliers and the Flames faced one another every year between 2013-16, with three of the games being one-goal contests. UVA’s largest margin of victory was a 2-0 win in the first year of the series.
The Cavaliers remain on the road next week, playing at No. 9 Boston College on Friday (Sept. 21) and Northeastern on Sunday (Sept. 23). Virginia returns home to host No. 8 Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. at Turf Field.
