Emma Navarro and senior Rosie Johanson had their run in the 2021 NCAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship come to an end with a loss in the semifinals on Thursday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Navarro (Charleston, S.C.) and Johanson (Vancouver, Canada) won their first set 6-4 against Kylie Collins and Lulu Sun of Texas but were edged 7-5 in the second set to force a super tiebreaker to decide the match.

Navarro and Johanson took an early 5-1 lead in the 10-point tiebreaker, but the Longhorns charged back, tying the decider at 7-7 and then edging out to a 9-8 lead. They won the next point to close out the victory.

Collins and Sun are currently ranked No. 19 in the ITA doubles rankings while Navarro and Johanson are 21.

Navarro and Johanson were the first players in program history to advance to the doubles semifinals.

Collins and Sun will take on UNC’s Makenna Jones and Elizabeth Scotty in Friday’s championship match.
