No. 4 Louisville Too Much For UVA Women’s Team

The Virginia women’s basketball team suffered a 91-43 defeat at No. 4 Louisville on Thursday at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville. Junior guard Dominique Toussaint led the Cavaliers with nine points. Asia Durr was one of four Cardinals to finish the game in double figures, scoring 20 points. Virginia shot 31.7 percent (19 of 60) while Louisville shot 57.1 percent (36 of 63). Louisville held a 42-27 edge in rebounding.

Virginia (7-11, 1-4 ACC) trailed by one, 15-14, before the Cardinals mounted a 24-3 run in the second quarter to take a 46-20 lead into halftime. Louisville (16-1, 4-1) mounted a 19-2 run in the third quarter to build up a 40-point advantage. The Cardinals led by as many as 50 in the fourth quarter.

All three of the Cavaliers baskets in the second quarter were three-pointers. Junior forward Lisa Jablonowski scored six points with five rebounds an also grabbed nine steals. She was 3-of-7 shooting. Senior forward Moné Jones was 3-of-6 shooting, scoring seven points. She also had four rebounds, all O-boards.

Virginia shot 42.9 percent (6-of-14) in the fourth quarter. Louisville shot 62.9 percent in the second half (17-of-27). UVA had its lowest free-throw shooting percentage of the season (25 percent, 1-of-4), as well as fewest makes (1) and fewest attempts (4).

The Cavaliers have a bye this Sunday before traveling to take on Pitt (9-8, 0-3 ACC) next Thursday at 7 p.m.
