Former Virginia assistant coach Kyle Getter has been hired as “associate head coach” by new Notre Dame coach Micah Shrewsberry.

Multiple sources confirmed Getter has taken the job in South Bend and is already recruiting for the Fighting Irish. News spilled about Getter’s UVA departure a few days ago, when one of the Cavaliers’ transfer-portal recruiting targets decided not to commit to Virginia after Getter told him he was leaving Charlottesville for South Bend.

It is a good move for Getter, who is expected to earn around $800,000 a year at Notre Dame and has the tag “associate head coach” to his position, somewhat of a stepping stone toward becoming a head coach.

Shrewsberry is the former head coach at Penn State and replaces legendary Irish coach Mike Brey, who stepped down after this past season. Shrewsberry has no ACC roots, so hiring Getter made sense.

Getter coached at UVA for the past five seasons under Tony Bennett, the last two as a full-time assistant coach after serving the previous three years as director of recruiting and player development.

Getter ironically replaces Anthony Solomon as Notre Dame’s associate head coach. Solomon played basketball for Terry Holland at Virginia in the early 1980s. Solomon is a Virginia native, who enjoyed three coaching stints at Notre Dame, all under Brey.
