According to reports out of Raleigh, NC State and Virginia will play in the first ever college football game in Brazil next season, in a game that will count as an ACC in-league game.

Cory Smith of Pack Pride broke the story on Tuesday night that the two teams, neither of which have ever participated in an international football game. A host city had not been identified in the initial report.

Originally, NC State was scheduled for a return trip to Charlottesville in the home-and-home series. UVA played at State this past season, dropping a 35-31 decision to the Wolfpack in a previously agreed upon “nonconference game” between two conference teams.

With this decision, Virginia loses a home game in a 2026 season that will follow the Cavaliers’ meteoric rise in ACC standings this year.

According to Virginia’s website, the Cavaliers were scheduled to play seven home games next season, including the return visit by NC State in a “nonconference game.”

There are already eight other ACC opponents on that schedule: Cal, Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, Florida State, SMU, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, along with four nonconference opponents: Norfolk State, West Virginia, Delaware and NC State.

No other details about the game were divulged from the Raleigh report and Virginia had not issued any comment about the report on Tuesday night.
