Tony Bennett said that he doesn’t think redshirt freshman Kadin Shedrick is ready to play quite yet, but is hopeful to have him back soon.

“He’s moving in the right direction,” Bennett said during his weekly ACC Coaches teleconference on Monday. “I’m hopeful that he’s closer. He’s starting to ramp up.”

Shedrick, a 6-foot-11, first year from Raleigh, N.C., has been sidelined with an undisclosed illness since the UVA win over Wake Forest on Jan. 6. Up until then, he had played in six games, with a season-high 18 minutes in the Cavaliers win over Saint Francis. Shedrick posted 12 points on a 5 for 6 shooting performance in that game.

When he was sidelined, Shedrick was shooting 53.3 percent for the season, connecting on 8 of 15 shots.

Meanwhile, in the wake of Saturday night’s loss at Virginia Tech, Bennett’s Cavaliers have dropped from No. 8 to No. 14 in today’s AP Top 25 rankings. UVA remained the top ranked ACC team in the poll, two spots ahead of the Hokies.

Virginia’s next game is Wednesday night (9 p.m. tip) at NC State.
