Freshman right-hander Eden Bigham has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday with the release of its weekly honors.
It is the first weekly honor from the league office for Bigham.
Bigham helped the Cavaliers to a 4-1 record in the opening weekend, the best start to a season for the Hoos since a matching 4-1 start to the 2012 campaign. She threw a no-hitter in her collegiate debut, striking out nine batters in the complete-game shutout of Lamar. She then picked up two saves on the weekend as she sealed the deal for the Cavaliers against Sam Houston and the second meeting against Lamar on the weekend.
The freshman did not allow a run on the weekend through her 11.0 innings of work.
Bigham and the Cavaliers return to action Thursday at UNC Greensboro. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Virginia will then continue play on the road this weekend at the ACC/Big 10 Challenge in games hosted at North Carolina.
