The Virginia No. 7 men’s and No. 18 women’s track and field program turned in a number of strong performances at the 2026 Virginia Grand Prix at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville on Friday, as five Cavaliers notched program top-10 marks, including Aixa Corbacho, Kendric Curry, Jacob Garnett, Brooke Lumpkin and Janae Profit.
CAVALIER TOP 10S …
- Aixa Corbacho threw a new personal best of 60.76m/199-4 to finish runner-up in the women’s hammer throw and better her Virginia No. 6 and freshman No. 3 all-time mark.
- Janae Profit threw a new personal best of 53.03m/173-11 to win the women’s discus and move up to No. 7 all-time.
- In the men’s pole vault, Kendric Curry cleared a personal best of 5.01m/16-5.25 to become No. 9 all-time and No. 3 among freshman in program history.
- Competing his first individual events of the season, Jacob Garnett clocked a new personal best of 21.13 to win the men’s 200-meters and to become No. 7 all-time.
- Brooke Lumpkin threw a new personal best of 16.39m/53-9.25 to finish runner-up in the women’s shot put and move up to No. 4 all-time.
FROM THE FIELD …
- Jeremiah Nubbe won the men’s hammer throw competition with his sixth-round throw of 71.10m/233-3.
- Cale Ayers rounded out the top three finishers in the men’s hammer throw also on his sixth attempt throwing for 63.66m/208-10.
- Madison Townsend cleared a personal best in the women’s pole vault at 3.90m/12-9.50.
- Samantha Romano and Hannah Byrd-Leitner both cleared 4.01m/13-1.75 in the women’s pole vault to go 1-2. The height was a season best mark for Romano.
- Isaiah Hewton jumped out to a season best of 14.16m/46-5.50 (+1.6) in the men’s triple jump.
- Alongside Lumpkin, Janae Profit also threw over 15 meters in the women’s shot put with her mark of 15.63m/51-3.50 to finish in third place.
ON THE TRACK …
- In his season opener, Gary Martin led the way in the men’s 1500-meters as the only athlete to cross the line in under 3:40. Martin clocked 3:39.92 to lead the pack of Cavaliers including Will Daley (3:42.80), Billy Atkinson (3:44.33) and Cayden Dyer (3:46.12 PB) in second through fourth place.
- In the women’s 1500-meter race, Tatum Olesen set a new personal best with her time of 4:22.17.
- Maya Rollins won the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a lean at the line to equal her season best of 13.61 (+1.2).
- Ariel Fletcher won the women’s 400-meter dash in a season-best 54.35 followed by Brooke’Lyn Drakeford (55.58) and Kaela Swift (56.97 PB) in second and third place.
- Ma’Khi Falkquay came away with the win in the women’s 100-meters (11.63 (+2.4)) and 200-meters (23.90 (+1.4)).
- Just behind Falkquay was Sarah Akpan with a season best time of 11.71 (+2.4) in the women’s 100-meter dash.
- Lola Kolawole set a new personal best in the women’s 200-meters in third place with her time of 24.38 (+0.9).
- Sam Rodman (1:49.35) and Tatum David (2:07.87) won the men’s and women’s 800-meters.
ANTHONY SHATTERS SCHOOL RECORD AT STANFORD
- On the opposite side of the country, Will Anthony broke the 10,000-meter program record at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track & Angell Field in Stanford, Calif., on Friday.
- In a loaded field at the Stanford Invitational, Anthony shattered the program record in the men’s 10,000-meters with his time of 28:02.25.
- The New Zealand native ultimately finished 15th in the first section of two, the 10,000-meter invitational. His previous best was 28:21.12 from the 2025 Raleigh Relays.
- The previous program record was held by current graduate student Andrew Jones at 28:20.95, also from the 2025 Raleigh Relays.
- Anthony is a 2024 outdoor honorable mention All-American and 2024 silver medalist in the event.

The Virginia No. 7 men’s and No. 18 women’s track and field teams will travel to Durham, N.C., to compete at the Duke Invitational Wednesday through Saturday.
